What type of music is better to play at a house party?

i listen to mostly 'indie' music that isn't really dance party friendly, per se. I am having a party in my home and i don't know what to play. it is painful for me at other parties to listen to the top 40 **** that is overprocessed. i usually just don't dance. but about 2/3 of the people coming listen to what i do so should i just put what i want (i'll make it good and danceable, like m.i.a. and das racist,major lazer, matt and kim, yeasayer) or do i put all the crap like 'omg' and 'california gurls' to appease the attendees? basically i know people will respond to the top 40 stuff as i have seen at other parties. but will it be okay if they don't know the songs? i am in such a conundrum, as music is like number 1 importance at a party. and food haha but that's easy. thanks!
