Marines or army?
Marine boot camp has about a 50% attrition rate. We started with 110 and graduated 45, so that is greater than 50% (we had meaner than average drill instructors). What one already said about promotion being slower in the Marines is somewhat true. By the numbers, it is, but there are many opportunities to p that by and be meritoriously promoted before anyone else. It is fairly easy, you just have to be squared away and serious. It is possible to make E-5 in four years, though not all that common. One thing about the Corps is the pride of being a Marine. They don't make it easy just to get in the ranks, believe me, and the discipline is at a higher level than in the rank and file of the army. But once there, you will notice that initiative is everything. Initiative is frowned upon in the army, from all that I have heard. I had an unbelievable experience in the US Marine Corps and will be a Marine until the day I die. I wouldn't change any of it for anything and my only regret is not reenlisting. Former Army folks usually say, "Yeah, I served in the Army." I can say, "I am a Marine."
