For an aquarium... which filter is better - internal or external and does size matter (filter of course. lol )

Definitely go for an external filter I would even recommend a Fluval canister filter. Depending on your Bio-load I would even recommend two of the canister filters. The reason I would say two is that the more water your getting through the filter the cleaner it will be and will be much healthier for the fish
